Calm, senior cloud leadership for teams that have outgrown “just make it work”.
I help 30–200 person organisations run AWS platforms that are reliable, cost-efficient and audit-ready—without hiring a full-time CTO.
Typical first outcome: a clear picture of where you are, what’s risky, and what to fix in the next 3–6 months.
Fractional CTO & Cloud Lead — what I actually do
I act as the “owner” for your cloud and platform direction: simplifying decisions, taming AWS, and giving founders, engineers and finance a shared view of reality.
AWS cost & governance
Make spend predictable and defensible: clean-up, right-sizing, Savings Plans/RIs, and sensible guardrails.
Architecture & DR
Design or evolve VPC, multi-AZ, resilience and DR so you can comfortably answer “what happens if this fails?”.
Platform & DevOps
CI/CD that works, environments that are consistent, SSM instead of SSH, and a platform engineers enjoy working on.
Security & compliance
ISO-style controls, logging, access and backups that stand up to audits and enterprise customer questions.
AI/LLM & data platforms
Practical self-hosted LLMs, Bedrock, RAG and data pipelines—built with cost, privacy and reliability in mind.
Executive & vendor leverage
Clear, concise updates for CEOs/CFOs, and calm handling of AWS, SaaS and infrastructure vendors.
OpsMate — your AWS environment, explained by AI.
OpsMate is a diagnostic engine I’ve built that connects to your AWS accounts via secure, read-only roles and turns infrastructure reality into clear, human-readable insight—without agents or weeks of implementation.
Today, OpsMate is offered as part of my fractional CTO / Cloud Lead engagements, tailored to each client.
It’s a concrete example of the level of automation and thinking I bring to the work.

About Me
I’ve spent more than two decades building and operating infrastructure, and the last several years leading AWS platforms, cost optimisation and security uplift for a mission-critical maritime software company.
- 25+ years across Linux, networking, storage and systems administration.
- Hands-on AWS Cloud Lead / Architect in multi-account environments.
- Experience with ISO 27001 governance and security working groups.
- Vendor and commercial contract negotiation with AWS and key SaaS providers.
- Deep interest in sustainable, self-hosted AI/LLM platforms and RAG on AWS.
How an engagement usually runs
The details change per client, but the shape is similar:
- 1. Discovery — understand your architecture, risks, costs and goals (often with OpsMate).
- 2. Prioritisation — agree a realistic 3–6 month roadmap that balances delivery with risk reduction.
- 3. Implementation — support your team to execute: unblock, mentor, and fix root causes.
- 4. Ongoing leadership — provide CTO-level input into strategy, hiring, vendors and major decisions.

I work best with organisations who already feel the pain of growth, but don’t yet need—or want—a full-time CTO.

A short note about your team size, AWS setup and what’s keeping you awake at night is a perfect starting point.
If you like, bring a single question to the first call:
“If you owned our AWS and platform strategy for the next 12 months, what would you do first—and what would you stop?”
I’ll answer that directly and concretely in the session.
